Get Involved! — Aug 2010
Volunteer Engage
The Volunteer Engage initiative helps volunteers and friends of Breakthrough move in the direction of becoming more effective ministry partners. It consists of opportunities for volunteers to learn more about urban ministry and the major issues facing urban America, to fellowship and share best-practices with other volunteers and to share in Breakthrough’s vision by getting to know its leadership staff. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
Upcoming events include:
Prayer Gathering, Thursday, September 2nd, 6-7pm**: This gathering will focus on the Breakthrough Youth Program. (**Prayer gatherings will always occur the first Thursday of the month, from 6-7pm, at the Breakthrough Ministry Center.)
Lunch with Leadership - Date, TBD: If interested, contact Liz Laird.
The Invisible Book Discussion, November 11th, 6:30-8:30pm: Mark your calendars now! Join us at the Breakthrough Ministry Center for a book discussion of Arloa Sutter’s new book The Invisible. More details to come.
Healthy food, healthy lives
In July, the Breakthrough Fresh Market hosted two cooking demonstrations to showcase food -including fresh produce from the GCFD Produce Truck- available in the Fresh Market. Items included: garlic mash, sazon papas, cucumber apple salad, roasted broccoli and other items!
The Fresh Market is still in need of more volunteers for Produce Truck delivery days, every 4th Tuesday of the month. The time commitment is from 9am-2pm. Additionally, more volunteers are needed for Senior Delivery day, the 2nd Saturday of the month, from 9am-2pm.
Back to School…and football season
After another successful Summer Studies youth program, the Breakthrough Youth and Family Services team will resume the Nettie Bailey Afterschool Program on Tuesday, August 17th. Breakthrough is currently in need of volunteers to serve as tutors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from approximately 3:30 to 6:00.
Breakthrough is also currently recruiting coaches and mentors for its fall football teams, running clubs and basketball teams.
