Breakthrough continues to serve East Garfield Park by providing critical and essential basic needs.

Shelter and Day Center

Breakthrough is offering overnight beds and access to services during the day for individuals in crisis. Services include food, clothing, showers, and other basic needs. We are seeing an increased need in daytime shelter. Already, the program serves 1,200 each year.

Food Pantry

The Fresh Market is distributing prepared bags of groceries, including perishable items like milk, eggs, and meat, to hundreds of people each week. We have seen a 25% increase in individuals needing food. Each year, the Fresh Market serves 10,000.

Violence Prevention

Violence prevention outreach workers continue to respond to instances of violence, as well as provide education to the community about resources available during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Emergency Child Care

Breakthrough Beginners is operating under an Emergency Child Care license to provide care for children of frontline and essential workers in Illinois. These students can be new to Breakthrough during the pandemic.
