Chief Program Officer, Breakthrough Youth Network

With Breakthrough since 2000

Bill had a desire to build youth programming and, joining forces with Breakthrough, responded to a need in East Garfield Park with the Breakthrough Youth Network. Prior to Breakthrough, he was an administrator, teacher, and coach in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Nonprofit Administration. He was also a part of the 2010 cohort of Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC), which immerses individuals in the major socioeconomic issues facing Chicago. His most prominent experience at Breakthrough has been watching the building of the FamilyPlex, beginning with an idea in 2001. The concept was largely led by the community’s youth, and, after a challenging process, opened on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in 2015. He enjoyed watching these young people’s dream become a reality. Bill and his wife have lived in East Garfield Park since their involvement with Breakthrough began, raising their three children in the community. In his free time, he enjoys coaching and watching high school basketball. He also engages in social issues, always seeking to learn and live in a way that honors God.
